Degree Programmes
In partnership with local industry body Skills for Energy the University of East Anglia has recently approved three new degrees which are set to admit their first students in September 2013.
- BEng Energy Engineering with Environmental Management (3 years)
- MEng Energy Engineering with Environmental Management (4 years)
- BEng Energy Engineering with Environmental Management with a Year in Industry (4 years)
Core themes of design, engineering principles and practice, electrical supply, renewable and non-renewable energy are enhanced by detailed study of fossil fuels, nuclear and solar energy, environmental assessment, risk management, professional ethics, wind and marine energy. These degrees will appeal to those students who want to make a contribution to solving one of the most important issues facing society over the next few decades. Further details will be available on the 2012 Open Days on 23 June and 7 July.
These degree programmes build on the recently established MSc in Energy Engineering with Environmental Management, which is already proving popular in both its part-time and full-time versions.
Each MSc module is delivered to a typical one-day timetable of a 10am – 1pm teaching slot, followed by a 3pm to 5pm seminar to facilitate day-release study over 2, 3 or 4 years. The engineering staff are also collaborating with local industry to include site visits, breakfast meetings, MSc dissertation placements and case studies delivered by visiting engineers.
To speed up progress in this important provision there are opportunities for companies to sponsor specialised lab equipment or students on the SELECT Scheme. UEA are also keen to explore ways in which they can work with the industry to support a growing research presence in engineering at UEA.
