Military in the Industry
Military personnel are ideal for the energy industry as they can bring a wealth of skills and knowledge from management through to problem solving, they have transferable skills that underpin the basic knowledge needed for the energy sector and they are a reliable workforce with the right work ethic needed throughout the industry.
Skills for Energy are offering:
- Military Industry Network for ex-military working in the energy sector
- Transition training and industry awareness events for serving military personnel wanting to move into the industry
The Military Industry Network looks to build a network of ex-military people that are already working in the energy sector in the East of England. Breakfast meetings will discuss issues and implications of entering the energy industry after coming out of the military. Through this, we hope to build a strong database of ex-military that can support one another and new entrees in to the energy sector. Information gained from the meetings are fed back to the service leavers via newsletters and appropriate websites.
Details of the first breakfast meeting can be found HERE.
Skills for Energy are able to run these events through sponsorship from 3sun, ECITB and Forces4Energy. The Military in the Industry program also has strong support from Military Champion in the East of England, Graham Hacon, managing director of 3sun.
To facilitate access to and assist the transition of military entering the industry, Skills for Energy also run Industry Awareness events and develop transition training where there isn’t a suitable training provision – working in partnership with ECITB and Forces4Energy, amongst others.
Skills for Energy work to cut through the jargon for military entering the industry and carry out skills gap analysis on each individual and tailor make a training package to suit their individual needs. We also work with local training provision ensuring the relevant equipment and courses are available in the region.
The Industry Awareness events are for current serving military personnel who are interested in entering the energy sector and are looking to understand how their skills would best fit within the industry. Two of these events are currently planned for 9th May 2012 and another in October 2012.
