STEM Learning, the national STEM Learning Centre and Network are running a programme across the East of England called STEM Insight into Industry which gives teachers the opportunity to take part in a placement of one or two weeks with a company. Insight into Industry aims to provide inspirational experiences for teachers to enrich teaching of STEM subjects and to update their understanding of the breadth of STEM related careers. Every participant is supported by a package of face to face and online training to ensure they use the experience back in school and their school receives a generous bursary to cover the costs of participating.
There is no cost to the employer except staff time in hosting the placement. STEM Learning are now looking for some exciting company placements - these could be for individual teachers or teachers working in small groups and at a time to be agreed. We are particularly excited about the impact that this could have in young people’s understanding of a particular sector and especially if their teachers from across science, maths and design technology can all relate their learning to work contexts back in school.
