Decommissioning SIG
The East of England is home to one of the largest clusters of offshore oil and gas assets on the UKCS – circa 150 platforms and structures. As the gas fields come to the end of their operational life the complex system of platforms, pipelines and wells will need to be decommissioned, removed and recycled. Despite being an end-of-lifecycle activity the decommissioning industry is estimated to be worth upwards of £2bn and will play a significant role in the region’s economy for decades to come.
The purpose of the Decommissioning SIG is to bring together the expertise within the membership in order to continually appraise evolving opportunities for business in the region brought forward by the need to safely, effectively and efficiently decommission the energy assets in the SNS. These discussions will inform and advise EEEGR on how best to support the sector moving forward.
The Decommissioning SIG reflects the work of the Recommissioning Partnership which first looked at this area more than 10 years ago and led to the formation of EEEGR. The initial meeting was open to any person or business with an interest in the decommissioning industry. Subsequent meetings will be open to EEEGR members and others by invitation.
- Open to: EEEGR members and others by invitation.
- Next meeting: TBC
