Doug graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1982 and has worked in drilling ever since. He learned his trade working as a drilling engineer and drilling supervisor in the North Sea and overseas for Marathon Oil, Shell and Conoco. Doug then spent ten years with Santa Fe Drilling, much of this time as Well Engineering Manager for the Southern North Sea. He was instrumental in hiring and training over fifty graduate drilling engineers and in drilling over 100 SNS wells for major Operators including Shell, BG and Gaz De France.
In 2004 Doug founded Fraser Offshore Ltd (FOL), a drilling project management company. Based at the Beacon Innovation Centre near Great Yarmouth, FOL provides expert teams of engineers, offshore supervisors and support staff who plan and drill offshore wells on behalf of oil company clients. With skills honed in the difficult drilling conditions of the Southern North Sea, FOL has grown to over 30 specialist employees. FOL now trains its own drilling engineers and offers its services internationally.
Doug believes that the East of England has a massive skills base in the growth areas of well construction and well servicing, and that local companies should capitalise on this resource to win work both local and overseas. He is a keen supporter of EEEGR as a catalyst for the use of this region's "old energy" resources for a head start in the "new energy" mix of renewables and nuclear power.
