The High Energy Schools' Challenge

What is it?

The High Energy Schools' Challenge is back and it's bigger and better than ever. The new ‘broadcast quiz' will return for the fifth time at the end of September ‘09 (30th September-1st October) and will be filmed in High Definition at EPIC Studios in Norwich. All heats and the live final will be made available for download from the internet soon after and will be broadcast over local radio in early 2010. The event has been fully rebranded to feature the all-energy electric charge which represents the whole energy supply chain.

The quiz will once again be hosted by the sparkling and erudite former Anglia News presenter Helen McDermott and the winning teams will take away trophies and cash prizes for their schools.

Who can enter?

The challenge will be open to any school in Norfolk or Suffolk and qualifying will take place in June '09. Teams will consist of three, specially selected, year nine students and schools will be encouraged to bring along as much support as they can muster.

Qualifying

The qualifying round will be a school-wide, internet based treasure hunt whereby whole schools will be challenged to find answers to 100 questions hidden within the websites of the event sponsors and other EEEGR members. The first eight complete and correct entries will win their school a place in front of the cameras to compete for a place in the final.

This activity has been specifically designed to engage all years across your school and give teachers an opportunity to reward contributing students whilst exposing them to companies within the energy supply chain.

The Live Final

Rounds one and two and the final will all be filmed in front of a live studio audience made up of competing teams and their supporters. Filming will be over two days and tours of EPIC Studios will be available for all members of the audience.

Filmed in High Definition

High Energy Schools' Challenge will be filmed at EPIC Studios in Norwich. Recently re-equipped with the latest High-Definition technology, EPIC studios is one of the most advanced TV studios in the country. The show will then be published on the internet and edited for use as an interactive teaching aid also available to download for free from the internet.

Sponsorship

The High Energy Schools' Challenge is an energy industry sponsored event with companies representing all four aspects of the energy supply chain: Oil, Gas, Nuclear and Renewables.

The event is also strongly supported and sponsored by Norfolk County Council.

Prizes

Teams that make it through to the live final will compete for the coveted High Energy Schools' Challenge trophy and the winning team will take home a cheque for £500 for their school and the runners up will receive £250 for their school. All participates will take away with them a goodie bag of gifts from the event sponsors.

Broadcast on Local Radio

High Energy Schools' Challenge will also to broadcast on a number of local radio stations in early 2010. The show will go out in weekly instalments so that listeners can follow the progress of the favourite teams week by week.
