Eastex - Materials Exchange for the East of England

Eastex is an East of England project funded by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) through the Business Resource Efficiency and Waste programme (BREW) which was developed to return £284 million of the additional receipts from increases in Landfill Tax to business in a manner that will encourage and support waste minimisation and resource efficiency. Supplementary to EEDA, Eastex is also supported regionally by funding from The Environment Agency, The East of England Regional Assembly and the County and District Councils over three years.
Registering with Eastex enables your business or organisation to become sustainable and socially responsible by:
- Finding homes for your surplus, unwanted, reuseable items
- Advertising these items freely across the East of England
- Sourcing items and materials for free or at a greatly reduced cost
- Improving your environmental performance by demonstrating that you are resource aware and working at the top of the waste hierarchy through re-use
- Decreasing your waste disposal costs
- Gaining revenue for items which are sold on
- Supporting your local voluntary and community sector and start up businesses
- Accessing discounted links to relevant training and events
- Gaining excellent PR for your environmental work
Since April 2006, Eastex has saved local organisations over £750,000 on waste disposal and procurement costs, over 4,500 tonnes of goods have been diverted from landfill and around 7,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide saved.
Absolutely anything with a re-use value can be sourced or passed on through Eastex from paper, furniture and electricals to organics, plant equipment and wood. Join the thousands of other organisations visiting Eastex each week to help save your business money and reuseable items from entering landfill.
