POWER cluster (Pushing Offshore Wind Energy Regions)

POWER cluster is a partnership to promote offshore wind energy involving eighteen partners from six European countries in the north sea region, and builds on an already well developed transnational co-operation network - POWER (Pushing Offshore Wind Energy Regions) which was funded from 2004-2007 by the European Union through the Interreg North Sea Programme (http://www.power-cluster.net/).
POWER cluster runs until June 2011, and the partnership is able to draw on a huge range of expertise, not only in offshore wind energy, but also in oil and gas and other related marine sectors. POWER cluster will develop comprehensive approaches to meet the strategic challenges of the offshore wind energy industry in the North Sea region, and make the region a better place to live, work and invest.
There are four work packages
- Social Acceptance - communicating the benefits of offshore wind energy to the public
- Business - Creating a business platform to foster offshore wind energy development in the North Sea region
- Skills - Adapting and preparing the North Sea region workforce to the needs of offshore wind energy
- Cluster Development - Developing an offshore wind power cluster in the North Sea region
Suffolk County Council is the lead partner for work package 2, working in partnership with the East of England Energy Group.
